Why Systems Support is the Ultimate Foundation for Cybersecurity
Read Time: 3 minutes
Moving into cybersecurity isn't just about learning tools—it's about understanding how systems break, function, and recover in real-world environments.
Working daily as an ICT Systems Support Officer, I get a front-row seat to enterprise operations. From managing Microsoft 365 and Entra ID identity ecosystems to maintaining Azure Virtual Desktop environments across multi-franchise networks, every day presents unique technical challenges. Resolving root causes rather than applying temporary band-aids builds an intuitive understanding of network infrastructure and identity management.
As cyber threats grow more sophisticated, identity governance and network security have become primary defense lines. My hands-on background in systems administration gives me a practical advantage: understanding how end-users interact with systems and how cloud architectures operate makes securing them second nature. To solidify this trajectory, I am actively working toward my CCNA and CompTIA Security+ certifications to combine practical experience with rigorous technical standards as I advance toward Cybersecurity Engineering.
